Understandable and I don't intend to be rude or disrespectful. I have read other posts where this particular request appears to be parked repeatedly. I'm at a desperation point and only intend to imply the desperation and not to offend anyone or hurt anyone's feelings.
The plan is actually to deprecate PureBrowser as Mozilla doesn't share the same goals we put forward and that makes it a lot of work to ensure that our user's privacy is protected.

I don't think this is the way to request for support. Please be kind and read other issues related with your problem first.

Dear @jonas.smedegaard ,
I joined this thread because I had two problems I thought were related to the subject matter. I apologize for not providing more information about version numbers, but not for going off-focus. I think you should pay attention, as you have, to what I report for two reasons; I have been solving (and causing) programming problems since likely before you were born, and I have solved the problems I initially told you about.

@emmes Which version did you install from PureOS Amber? Info should be available in /var/log/dpkg.log even if you since removed it again.

I installed three different versions of webext-ublock-origin. 1 from pureOS amber. 2 from github. 3) from gnu. In my hands, they all behaved the same as I described.

emmes would like to comment on his experience with purebrowser-68.02esr from the amber repository.
I was able to install webext-ublock-origin and it initially worked as it should. After an exit and relaunch, the icon was missing from the menu toolbar and the add-on did not work. It can be made to work by going to Add-ons, disabling it and then renabling it. A second problem with purebrowser, which may or may not be related, is that once Privacy badger is installed, it cannot be uninstalled or reported.

top and htop are great tools for measuring CPU usage and diagnosing this issue. Fans usually start running at a certain temperature threshold and the CPU reaches that threshold when it is heavily used. The tools show which processes are using CPU, for how long, etc. If we could start with either a screen grab (try screen shot tool) or simply put in your "load average:" data - that would be a great start towards diagnosing issues.

@EchedeyLR I agree that this issue is an issue for PureOS. It is not a freedom issue however: That tag has a specific definition tied to https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html (if you think the definition should be changed then please discuss that with the GNU project).
jonas.smedegaard added a comment to T817: Purebrowser 68.0.2esr-1pureos3 shows Firefox home page in the home and also in new tabs.

It is true that Freedom Issue here is related with non-free software being attached with a software and/or packages, but I think recommending non-free network services should be included on that.

but already, getting fixed by only (?) removing and reinstalling the addon indicates that this is a bug in the addon rather than Firefox trying to suppress it (e.g. due to that new Mozilla content blocker perhaps conflicting with it).

jonas.smedegaard reopened T376: gnome-initial-setup - includes plugin needing privacy-leaking service Pocket as "Open".
Unfortunately, Pocket is again included: Seems Firefox changed between 60 an 68 to embed Pocket in the core instead of providing it as a hidden system.

The package currently in PureOS green - 68.0.2esr-1pureos3 - depends on webext-ublock-origin, and the addon loads fine on my system.

I would investigate further because we quote 4k 30Hz output on the v4 Librem Laptops and we can't if they seem to be tied down to 1920x1080p output.
Still no update from the command-not-found repo, and no progress on T638 so far, so I guess removing command-not-found altogether is the best solution for now 🤷
