There are parts of the EFI stack that are proprietary, this is why we do not include them in our installer. Other projects may include them in their "non-free" repos but because we're a FSF compliant Free Software distro we don't include non-free repositories. We continue to investigate if there is a way to support GPT.

Had the same issue, I fixed it by enabling Compatibility Support Module (CSM) in BIOS. Hope this can help others as well.
