Cause of the issue determined to be a faulty keyboard embedded controller firmware. Purism SPC issued RMA for all affected devices. Flashing fixed EC firmware fixes the problem, and PureOS correctly recognizes the mentioned keyboard keys.

NOTE: Anyone with the problem should contact Purism technical support.

(This ticket is for UK devices. For US devices, please see T431)

(Re-opening as, well, it's not really "fixed" in a meaningful sense to our users although it might be from a technical PoV..)

I've been testing a firmware fix today; appears to work. Details kept private on request.

This issue has been resolved.

The problem turned out to be related to EC firmware on specific revisions of the Purism Librem laptop. As this isn't a PureOS issue but a firmware issue, this can't be resolved within PureOS. Purism is notifying affected customers with the solution. If new customers run across this issue they should contact support@puri.sm.
