Please take a look at Tor Project's instructions for more information about best practices: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en#warning ## Step 1 Open //PureBrowser// and go to https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en. Click to download the //Linux, 64-bit// version, choose to save file and click !!OK!!: {F151776, size=full, alt=tor1} ## Step 2 When download is completed, click the little folder icon to open the //Downloads// folder: {F151778, size=full, alt=tor2} ## Step 3 Double-click the downloaded file to open it: {F151780, size=full, alt=tor3} ## Step 4 The file will be opened in archive manager, click !!Extract!! to proceed: {F151782, size=full, alt=tor4} ## Step 5 **Select the folder** where the archive will be extracted (in this example //Desktop// folder is used) and click the !!Extract!! button (upper right corner) to unpack the archive: {F151815, size=full, alt=tor5} ## Step 6 When the extraction is complete, click to show the extracted files: {F151787, size=full, alt=tor6} ## Step 7 This is what you will see: {F151813, size=full, alt=tor7} Note that the extracted folder is named //tor-browser_en-US// and that it is placed in the //Desktop// directory. The file //start-tor-browser.desktop// is a shortcut file, but we need to edit it to point to the directory where we extracted the TorBrowser archive. ## Step 8 Open //Terminal// and go into the extracted folder (one would run `cd ~/Desktop/tor-browser_en-US` in //Terminal// if extracted into the //Desktop// folder). {F358715, size=full, alt=tor8} ## Step 9 Then run command: {icon terminal}`./start-tor-browser.desktop --register-app` to have //Tor Browser// shows up with your other installed apps. {F358717, size=full, alt=tor9} ## Step 10 If succesfful, you should see this output in //Terminal//: {F358719, size=full, alt=tor10} Start it, and when it is configured, open https://check.torproject.org/ to see if you are using the Tor network: {F151810, size=full, alt=tor11} NOTE: If you wish to upgrade TorBrowser, simply delete //tor-browser_en-US// folder from your //Desktop// directory and repeat just the steps 1-6! = See Also = You can also setup your [[PureOS/Tips/Firefox Tor | browser to access Tor network]], but this is not recommended by the tor authors.
