Package primus has as sole purpose to offload OpenGL processing to a secondary graphics card more powerful than the primary one.
Only known use of primus, and how it is packaged for Debian, is in tight connection with bumblebee for use with specific NVIDIA graphics cards.

bumblebee is free software (bumblebee-nvidia is not but we don't have and I patched bumblebee to not have it). primus is also free software unless proven otherwise.
I disagree with closing this issue: Bumblebee is in Debian main because Debian covers free _licensing_ but not indirect promotion of non-free stuff.
According to its package description, the sole purpose of bumblebee package is to enable the use of non-free NVIDIA driver.
Looking closer, Bumblebee seemingly also supports the free nouveau driver, so is indeed Free (by our current threshold of freedoms).
