Manual update
1.
Start Software and click the reload button in upper left corner:

Wait for the upgrades to download:

Click the Restart & Install button to install the updates:

Automatic updates
You can setup automatic check for updates using GNOME extensions.
1.
Start Software and click Add-Ons, GNOME shell extensions list will open:

Press CTRL+F to open show search bar, and enter "apt update":

Open Apt Update Indicator, then click the Install button:

When installed, click the Run button to open the extension's settings:

Click the Notifications gear and turn it on:

Then go to the Advanced Settings tab and select your upgrade method—if you select Launch gnome-software, Software Center will be used to execute actual upgrade. You can also go for Custom:

...and enter the apt upgradecommand:

When there are updates available:

...you can simply click Apply updates:

...and your preferred way of upgrading will show up (step 6). If you have selected custom method, then a Terminal will open, you will need to enter your password and hit ENTER:
