PureOS Prometheus 8.0 Beta 1 live requires username/password to log into desktop session
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Prometheus 8.0 Beta 1 image I download from the website (https://downloads.puri.sm/live/gnome/2018-07-06/pureos-8.0-gnome-live_20180706-amd64.hybrid.iso) requires a username and password to log in, rather than dropping the user into the desktop session (as expected from a Live DVD/USB image). I'm using the FOSS VirtualBox on Debian to boot the image.

This is an obvious barrier for trying the operating system, and I can't find a default username/password in any documentation online.

Hi @seandiggity. Try pureos with no password. :)

Thanks @chris.lamb ! Is this anywhere in documentation? Also, in my opinion (I know it's a beta) the user should just be dropped into the desktop session. This will be a barrier for people I recommend PureOS to, and I have handed out a lot of LiveUSB keys at workshops with a wide variety of users.

Very good ideas. Indeed, I believe there is already a ticket regarding this but I can't find it right this second... feel free to create another. :)

Just learning the ropes, is there somewhere else I should have filed this? I also couldn't find the issue elsewhere.

This bug is exclusive to VirtualBox, for some reason VBox doesn't play nice with Wayland which leads to GDM having trouble.
It's on my todo list to look into this already.

Ah, I should have guessed. Thanks!

I experienced the same problem. After finding this thread and plugging in "pureos" as username on my VirtualBox running on Ubuntu I get massive CPU activity and a black VBox screen.

I get massive CPU activity and a black VBox screen.

Unless I'm missing something, that sounds like a different issue to not knowing the username or password?
