Login screen lists two "Kodi" options
Open, LowPublic

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  • Install PureOS
  • Start machine
  • At login screen, click on DE dropdown

What should happen:

  • Easy-to-understand options are listed

What happens instead:

The following options are listed, including two identical options:

  • X11
  • GNOME (default)
  • GNOME Classic
  • GNOME Xorg
  • Kodi
  • Kodi

Suggestions:

  • Either remove one of the Kodi options, or disambiguate them (e.g. "Kodi" and "Kodi Xorg")
  • The meaning of these options is fairly intuitive (e.g. GNOME Xorg is clearly GNOME desktop running X instead of Wayland) but is this documented anywhere?
  • What is the difference between "X11" and "GNOME Xorg"?

Hmmm, this should be closed as a duplicate of https://tracker.pureos.net/T255 but I can't bring it up :P

Perhaps you typed "255" in the popup dialog, where it expects "T255"?

This is not really a duplicate of T255, but rather an issue concretely actionable since it is isolated to a specific package, whereas T255 is a meta-issue tracking the broader concept.

This was addressed in Debian today with the release of kodi 2:17.6+dfsg1-2.
Consequently should likely reach PureOS in ~1 month.
