@mladen.pejakovic because png has good quality/compression ratio and is the intermediate image format that I always use for reference or format conversion when required.
If they need to be in a different format just let me know.

No no, I was just curious. :) I know png is better, I just didn't know it matters when wallpaper is in question. :)

We need to get rid of desktop-base dependencies, I'll take a look on what is missing there (then we can also finally change the GRUB wallpaper without problems)

@mak let me know if you need any visual assets to replace the existing Debian ones. I may have missed something

We now have a *massive* amount of wallpapers in the theme package, I think it makes sense to remove some wallpapers that we don't need.
You can view all wallpapers currently in the package at https://github.com/purism/pureos-artwork/tree/master/gnome/backgrounds/pureos

For the record, the compressed size of the images bundle is 50MB (!) now, the installed size is even higher. I really think we should reduce the amount of wallpapers that we ship by default.

Hmm, looks like Hema forgot to write XML definitions for almost all of the images...
I'll do that as soon as we know how many images we want to keep in the default install.

@mak, sorry for the late answer, I was away on holiday.

You should remove from the list :

*_1920x1080.png
arcturus.png
prometheus*
purist*

This should get rid of all the branded wallpapers (that will always be a problem with the FSF) and only leave the latest (landscape) ones.

Are you sure the branding will be an issue? Afterall, the Plymouth bootsplash is branded as well.
I already deleted a couple of duplicate images, so we already have less stuff, but it's still a lot: https://github.com/purism/pureos-artwork/tree/master/gnome/backgrounds/pureos

@mak, the Plymouth theme on the live image should only be "PureOS" branded. The "Purism" one shouldn't be visible by default. Only the OEM install should display the "Purism" theme. It is what we have decided with Todd and Zlatan.

So I would remove the Purism branded wallpapers as they are easily visible through the user settings and the FSF would annoy us for that. You can leave the Prometheus ones but they are not looking very good IMO. I will redo them later when I have time for that.

@mak , the Purism branded wallpapers are still present in the 08/03 ISO and they should be removed.

Thanks for changing the default wallpaper anyway! I just tested the latest live ISO and it looks great! :)
