Computer crashed while using laptop, now I am unable to access the PureOS login screen
Open, NormalPublic

Description

I was getting a message that my root directory was getting full, which I doubt because I have still over 100GB in free space.

I tried to open the gnome disk analyzer app and then the system crashed to a black screen. After rebooting, I am able to get through the encryption password but I get a black screen with only an underscore in the upper left corner after.

I have a Librem 13V3 with latest coreboot updates. Only modification is I switched the SSD for a Samsung 970 m.2 drive.

Edit:

I have tried booting with an older Kernel and then with recovery mode, but neither worked. Trying these get me to the same black screen. I recorded the quick message that appears after the first login, if that helps:

I have also contacted support with my issue, but hoping someone here might help first. Really don't feel like losing my data.

I think what is happening is that it is looking for the old key on your old drive and not finding it. (Hence the message: "No key available with this passphrase"). Is there anyway you can re-insert your old drive and then copy the contents over to the new disk? Alternatively, you may be able to inform cryptsetup about your new disk.

Update.

With support by email I was able to boot with a live cd and backup my files, although some of them in my home directory couldn't be backed up due to lacking permission. After doing that and panicking less a bit, I provided the content of the crypttab file to Mladen and he suggested to comment

luks-42183f69-b16c-4ec8-bd5a-2e1aaa4083b9 /dev/disk/by-id/nvme-eui.0025385881b1342a-part3 /dev/urandom swap,cipher=aes-xts-plain64,size=256

to disable unlocking of swap partition.

After normally rebooting the laptop, now something different happens. After successfully entering the first password like first time, I now see the PureOS logo for maybe 2 minutes, and then I am directed back to the original black screen.

Mladen wasn't certain what to do at this point, and I am thankful for his help. We decided it would be best to re-install the OS, which I tried to do by following the Easy Install instructions on the Wiki. However, when I get to the 'paritions' step, the option 'erase disk' is not available, and I am only presented with Manual or Replace a partition.

If someone has any idea, I would appreciate.

The new disk was changed maybe 6 months ago. I do not have it anymore.

Yes. That's the one I am following.

When I get to the 'partitions' step, the option 'erase disk' is not there, only manual and replace.
